Hello Neighbors,
You know those painful cuts to City services you’ve read about? Many of the most impactful ones are being reversed — that is, if the mayor signs the final budget I just approved with my City Council colleagues.
This Tuesday, the Council passed a budget with significant amendments that I proposed along with several of my colleagues. Our changes restored critical City services — including Monday library hours in key locations, rec center hours across the city, and operating hours at popular City lakes.
We also restored funding for the San Diego Humane Society, community and cultural street fairs, festivals, and celebrations — and yes, even beach fire pits.
How did we fund these changes? We proposed reductions to make City Hall slimmer — strategic cuts inside the bureaucracy so that City services folks rely on the most don’t suffer.
Our proposal also focused on the long-term health of the City by advancing responsible revenue opportunities to help strengthen the City’s fiscal standing for years to come.
I want to express my deep appreciation to the communities and organizations that showed up and generated the public support needed to pass a budget that preserves the day-to-day neighborhood services San Diegans rely on.
On that note, summer’s here, school’s out, and if your family is like mine, you’re juggling a lot! So if you want a break and/or some fun, join us out in the neighborhood! From Movies in the Park to 4th of July celebrations, there’s something for everyone happening right here in District 6. Check out the details below, and we hope to see you there!
Warm Regards,
Council President Pro Tem Kent Lee
